Distractions. They are quite, well, distracting. When you’re trying to get your work, essay, or various other projects done, something can distract you. What may take only 30 minutes to complete can evolve to double that time, if not more. What are some common distractions, and how can you avoid them?
Distractions and Counseling
If you are depressed, anxious, or just need someone to help discipline you, a counselor or a therapist can help. Online counseling or therapy can be a good way for you to get help and improve yourself. Sites such as Regain can help and allow you to work on your own schedule and make it easier. It can help with nipping the urge to fall into these distractions when they happen.
Social Media and The Internet in General
One of the biggest distractions out there is the Internet, which is a bit problematic when you need the Internet to finish your projects or work. You want to do some research, and suddenly you’re knee-deep in cat posts, or arguing with someone on Facebook. With the Internet, it’s so easy for you to get distracted, and social media sites are so good for dopamine rushes. Every notification you get feels good and you may be on there longer than you would have wished.
You can use internet filters and other add-ons to limit your usage to distracting sites, or ban it altogether. It’s much easier that way.
Noisy People
Noise can make work way less efficient and productive. When you are working with a loud coworker, or in with a roommate, they can be talkative, loud, or just plain distracting. What can be done in a situation like this? You can try asking them to be quiet, but you may feel like you’re rude, and sometimes, it just doesn’t work.
One thing you can do is to play some white noise or ambient music to drown them out and make yourself more focused on the work ahead of you. Try that out and see if it works. If it does, then bye bye noisy folk.
If it’s your children, then you may need to give them unique toys or other goods to distract them until you’re ready for family bonding. For ideas, click here or look here for more information.
Mental Fog
Sometimes, you may just feel mentally fogged. This can happen because of many reasons. Burnout is one of them. If you spend too much time on work, it’s okay to take a break and clear your head. Other times, it’s because you didn’t get much sleep last night. In that case, taking a nap, or sipping on an energy drink may help. Just make sure you don’t take too much. Sometimes, you just need to move away and try working in another room.
Mental fog can be a problem, but with a little troubleshooting, you can make this problem a whole lot better for you.
Intrusive Thoughts
Sometimes, your own intrusive thoughts can distract you. Your mind can be all over the place, or giving you self-defeating thoughts that make it hard for you to focus. In a case like this, mindfulness or meditation may be able to help. Being mindful means that you can make yourself feel a lot better by eliminating all self-defeating thoughts and finding a calm that you can reach.
Everyone Gets Distracted
If you find yourself distracted, there is no shame in that. Everyone gets a little distracted in some way, and that’s okay. By trying to make changes, you can be less distracted and more productive, and isn’t that the best way to go about things? Try changing your life today.
