Maintaining Commercial Washer/Dryer Machines

If you have a combo machine – one that washes and drys – it is important that you maintain it properly so that you can prolong the lifespan of your equipment.

So, how do you clean the combo machine at your business property? No matter whether you have a laundry cleaning business or you run a hotel, read on to discover more.

Some tips to help you get started

  • Turn your machine on for about 40 seconds
  • Once you have done this, disconnect your machine from the plug socket
  • Don’t use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the cosmetic appearance of your combo machine

What will you need?

  • A soft cloth or sponge
  • A mild detergent

Why not make your own detergent? This is more cost-efficient! All you need to do is add two tablespoons of baking soda to one quart of lukewarm water.

Cleaning your machine

The first area of the machine you should clean is the exterior of your unit. All you need to do is dip your cloth into the detergent and rinse it. You can then scrub the unit, getting rid of any residue. Make sure you then finish off by wiping with a dry cloth. Open the door to clean around this and to remove all moisture from the gasket. This will ensure the seal remains watertight.

The next thing you need to clean is the detergent dispenser, which can be fully removed. Once it is removed, place the dispenser in the sink and rinse it with lukewarm water. Dry the dispenser off with a dry cloth and place it back into the machine.

The third thing you need to do is clean out your coin trap. This is located at the bottom of the machine, and it collects small items from your wash cycle. Open the door of the coin trap. It’s a good idea to have a small bowl waiting next to this in case any residue water comes out. You can then turn the coin trap knob and pull it out. You should then clean all parts and wipe dry, after which insert the coin trap back into the unit and tighten.

Finally, you need to clean the water inlet filter. Begin by removing the inlet hose. Run water through the hose, ensuring it runs freely through. Finish off by cleaning the unit connection. Use long nose pliers to remove the filters and rinse them under warm water, after which you can reinstall.

If you’re washer/dryer machine has not been working effectively, it could be that you need a replacement part, such as a 2 way solenoid valve. Consulting an expert on this is recommended.

So there you have it: the easy steps to follow to clean and maintain your combo machine. It is important to make sure you do this once every month at the very minimum so that you can keep your machine running efficiently while also maintaining high levels of safety within your business.
