When your career feels like it’s killing you more than it is championing you, you need to do something about it. And no, that doesn’t mean quit. Because it’s highly likely that you still need to be able to pay your rent and eat. To do that, you’re going to need the pay cheque that your current job offers you. But, at the same time, you still need to take action. And fast. If you want to remedy your awful situation, you should work out which avenue is going to get you the results you want, and head in that direction. And here are five different options you could choose to work with.
Complain
Depending on what the problem is, you should think about complaining. If it’s the workplace itself and you feel as if you’re being unfairly treated, or you’re having a tough time, speak up. Speak to the right people, or even do it online like peninsula group complaints, and get your opinions out there. If you love what you do, but the business circumstances are too tough, speaking up could bring about the changes you need in order to be happy.
Iron Out The Issues
If complaining isn’t going to get you anywhere, because sometimes changes aren’t fixable, then you should think about ironing out the issues on your own. If it’s a work process or a person, see if you can either speak to them or change the way you do things. Again, you might not necessarily be interested in completely changing your job, but you want the issues ironed out. To do that, you need to be proactive and make it happen.
Go It Alone
However, you may also find that you’re ready to something for yourself. When that’s the case, you could be ready to go it alone. Whether you’ve always dreamed of going freelance or you feel like you’re ready to start your own business, now could be the time. There’s nothing like sheer desperation and unhappiness to push you into doing something that you should have done a lot sooner.
Jump Ship
Next, you may also want to consider jumping ship. Sometimes, heading on over to a company that can offer you so much more, is definitely the right idea. Of course, it’s not always going to work for everyone, but many job roles can be done in the same way, just in different companies. So you should definitely think about moving over to a new company that you’re more likely to feel comfortable in.
Start Afresh
Finally, you could also think about doing something completely different. Because when you’re really unhappy with your current career path, it could mean that you’re in the wrong career. But, when you’re able to choose a new career path, you may find that it will be more suited to your skills and what you want out of life. So definitely do some research and consider if there could be something more suitable out there for you.
